The public schools of America have served the purposes for which
they were created extremely well; however, both the outcomes we need and
the strategies for achieving them have changed. Our emerging society
differs dramatically from the society for which the schools were created,
and requires that the schools be reinvented to achieve both traditional
and new purposes. Primary among these purposes are nurturing,
informing, and empowering children, youth and adults. Substantial change
does not come easily. Exceptional energy, excellent knowledge, experience
and intuition are needed to create major positive change. These
exceptional leaders exist among our Principals and teachers in many school
districts. They are working productively. They need our support, and the
support of each other as they lead. The Suncoast Alliance for School
Improvement seeks to provide a supporting network for these pioneering
leaders. A fuller description of SASI is included in The Suncoast Alliance
for School Improvement document available in the office of the
Center.
